In addition to the Sintra Mountains and Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, you can visit royal retreats, estates, castles and buildings from the 8th-9th century, in addition to many buildings built between the 15th and 19th century, including the Castelo dos Mouros, the Pena National Palace and the Sintra National Palace.

Landforms:

The highest point in Sintra is the Crux Alta, which stands out from the rather flat landscape. Its location on the hills jutting out from the ocean catches the breeze from the sea. It borderlines the sea, and has many beaches. The Sintra Mountains or locally the Serra De Sintra is a mountain range in Sintra. Its highest point is at 1736 feet. The range covers about 10 miles from the resort town of Sintra to Cabo da Roca on the Atlantic Ocean.

The São João platform, along the northern flank of the Sintra Mountains, has altitudes between 100 metres and 150 metres , while the southern part of the mountains, the Cascais platform, is relatively lower in altitude. It slopes from 150 metres to the Atlantic sea (the closest body of water), stopping along the coast, it is around 30 metres above sea level.

Agricultural Landforms:

The Serra stands out from the relatively flat surrounding landscape, its highest point being the Crux Alta. There are slight local variations and three ecological areas relevant to the cultural landscape: an area of pinewood, a natural forest of various species (oak, pine, chestnut), and an area colonized by the forest tree species. Due to its micro-climate, a huge park has developed, full of rich, dense foliage, with a rich botanical diversity, constituting groups of a national forest.
